Description. Male. Integument yellowish; head, prothorax, meso and abdominal ventrites I–IV yellowish-brown. Setae and pubescence yellowish-white.

Head. Frons coarsely punctate, with short setae sparsely distributed; mandibles with elongate yellowish setae, except on apical area. Antennal tubercles flattened, separated by distance approximately equal to diameter of base of scape. Median groove distinct from clypeus to behind posterior margin of upper eye lobes; area between upper eye lobes with setae near margin of lobes. Gulamentum with depression and short setae between lower eye lobes; surface glabrous, without notable punctation behind lower eye lobes. Upper eye lobes with nine rows of ommatidia; distance between upper eye lobes equal to about width of four rows of ommatidia. Antennae about 1.2 times length of body, reaching elytral apex at base of antennomere IX; with abundant setae evenly distributed; setae on internal side about as long as twice diameter of antennomere; length of setae at external side equal to about diameter of each antennomere. Scape coarsely punctate, slightly widened at distal 3/4, narrowed toward apex; surface with short and a few long setae (length of latter equal to about diameter of widest part of scape), sparsely distributed. Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.6; pedicel = 0.1; IV = 1.2; V =1.11; VI = 0.97; VII = 0.84; VIII = 0.71; IX = 0.66; X = 0.62; XI = 0.51.

Thorax. Prothorax elongated, about 1.5 times longer than wide; with abundant, short yellowish-white setae, evenly distributed, not obscuring integument; pronotum with glabrous longitudinal depression, thinner posteriorly, widened toward head, bifurcated at anterior third. Prosternum with abundant, short yellowish white setae, except on anterior margin, which has transversal depression finely striated near head, and glabrous, transversal area posteriorly. Metaventrite with setae as on prosternum; metaventrite with more scattered setae. Scutellum glabrous. Elytra. Long, 3.6 times length of prothorax, abundantly and evenly punctate; surface with yellowish-white short setae.

Legs. Femora and tibiae with yellowish-white setae, more abundant on tibiae; femora flattened laterally; apex truncate; mesotarsomere I as long as II + III; metatarsomere I as long as twice length of II + III.

Abdomen. Ventrites with short setae sparsely distributed; ventrite V slightly beveled at apex.

Female. Prothorax as long as wide. Prosternum, meso- and metaventrite with short setae sparsely distributed.

Dimensions (in mm), holotype female/ paratypes male–female. Total length, 7.7/8.6–6.5; prothorax length, 1.45/1.68– 0.8; anterior width of prothorax, 0.7/0.9–0.6; posterior width of prothorax, 0.8/0.9–0.7; humeral width, 1.0/1.1–0.99; elytral length, 5.1/6.1–4.9.

Type material. Holotype male from BRAZIL, Bahia, Maracás ( Fazenda Bom Futuro ; 13°28’16.5” S / 40°26’17,8” W; 951m.) 25–26.VII.2012, Silva-Neto, A. M., Menezes, E. and Nascimento, F.E. leg. ( MZFS) GoogleMaps . 1 paratype male ( MZSP) and 1 female, same data as holotype ( MZFS). GoogleMaps

Etymology. The name refers to the longitudinal depression of the pronotum that is bifurcated in the anterior third.

Remarks. The general yellowish color and the elongate prothorax, without a sharp posterior constriction and with subparallel sides in males differs Stenoeme furca sp. nov. from all species of the genus.
