This is a very widespread Neotropical lichen known from Argentina in the south to the USA in the north (e.g., Thor 1991; Sipman 2006; Boom et al. 2007; Flakus 2008; Aptroot et al. 2009). In Bolivia it is the commonest member of the genus.
