Eupolymnia Verrill, 1900 View in CoL
Eupolymnia Verrill, 1900: 660 View in CoL ; Hutchings & Glasby 1988:12 –13; Hutchings 1997a:147. Type species. Amphitrite nesidensis Delle Chiaje, 1828 View in CoL , designated by Hartman (1959).
Diagnosis. Prostomium compact, three pairs of branched branchiae on segments 2–4. Lateral lobes on segments 2–4. Notopodia from segment 4, 17 pairs, with smooth-tipped notochaetae. Neurochaetae as avicular uncini, present from segment 5.
Remarks. A neotype of the type species of the genus, E. nesidensis ( Delle Chiaje, 1828) , should be defined as almost nothing is known for certain about the species and type material is lost. As suggested elsewhere ( Hutchings & Glasby, 1988), we recommend that a revision of the genus should be conducted to clarify possible synonyms.
