Terebella Linnaeus, 1767 View in CoL
Terebella Linnaeus, 1967: 1092 View in CoL ; Hutchings and Glasby 1988: 51; Hutchings 1997a: 158. Type species. Terebella lapidaria Linnaeus, 1767 View in CoL , by monotypy.
Diagnosis. Three pairs of dichotomously branched branchiae from segment 2. Lateral lobes absent. Notopodia from segment 4, continuing for a variable number of segments; notochaetae distally serrated. Neuropodial uncini from segment 5, arranged in single rows on anterior segments and double rows on mid segments; posterior uncini arranged in single rows. Nephridial papillae from segment 3.
Remarks. The specimens of “ Terebella ” cf. Terebella gorgonae described below have uncini of the double uncinial rows arranged back to back instead of being face to face. This feature has been omitted from the diagnosis until further studies resolve the consistency of this character within the genus.
