Type:— Pitardella caudatifolia ( Pitard 1923: 244) Tirvengadum (2003: 33)

Notes:— Merrill (1923) and Pitard (1923) published the same name Randia caudatifolia with the exact same spelling in the same year. Merrill’s name was published in September 1923, but the issue date (which ought to be later than the publication date) was erroneously printed as 24 July 1923. Pitard’s name was published in August 1923, and hence has priority over Merrill’s name, which is thus rendered a later homonym. Even if Pitard’s name is illegitimate, the final epithet may be re-used in a different name (Art. 58.1 of the ICN: Turland et al. 2018) and would be cited as Pitardella caudatifolia Tirveng. and has priority from 2003, but this is clearly not the case.
