Material examined: One female 183.1 µm long, from Terras do Pico, Pico Island, mounted in Hoyer’s medium.
Apart from filament A (37.3 µm long), all lateral and dorsal appendages are spines: C, 19.2 µm long; D, 19.5 µm long; E, 19.5 µm long; C d, 4.6 µm long; and D d, 7.0 µm long.
The species is considered cosmopolitan; the form brachyspinosus in recorded from the Carpathians, North America, Vietnam and New Zealand.
