Pterosthetops Perkins, 1994

Pterosthetops Perkins (in Perkins and Balfour­Browne) 1994: 17 (type species Pterosthetops impressus Perkins and Balfour­Browne, 1994 ).

The genus Pterosthetops , including the one new species described below, comprises five species (previously described species by Perkins and Balfour­Browne 1994): P. brincki , P. equestrius , P. harrisoni , P. hawequas new species, and P. impressus . These species are restricted to southernmost South Africa, and have very limited distributions ( Figs. 124, 125 ). A total of only 99 specimens are known, and these come from only 16 localities/collecting events. Members of Pterosthetops have been collected from stones and roots in streams. Specimens are sometimes found in algae under stones ( impressus ), in trickles over cliff rocks ( brincki ), or damp rock walls with algae ( equestrius ). Only rarely have specimens been collected from rock pools ( impressus ) or from margins of streams by the shore washing method ( impressus and hawequas ) ( Perkins and Balfour­Browne 1994).
