Prosthetops Waterhouse, 1879

Prosthetops Waterhouse, 1879: 533 (type species Prosthetops capensis Waterhouse , a synonym of Ochthebius megacephalus Boheman ).

The genus Prosthetops includes five previously described species and one new species: P. grandiceps Perkins & Balfour­Browne, 1994 , P. megacephalus (Boheman, 1851) , P. nitens (Péringuey, 1892) , P. pronotus Perkins & Balfour­Browne, 1994 , P. setosus Perkins & Balfour­Browne, 1994 , and P. gladiator new species. These species are quite limited in distribution ( Figs. 122, 123 ), and are relatively rarely collected. To date only 155 specimens are known, collected during 24 collecting localities/events. Specimens of four species have been collected from mountain rock pools ( gladiator , megacephalus , nitens , and setosus ).
