Type locality. Otira , West Coast.

Type material examined. 3 exx. Syntype ( NHM): card-mounted, “ Mesocyphon diver- \ gens. var. D. S. \ Otira, Wakefield.” [written at base of card in Sharp’s hand], “Sharp Coll. \ 1905-313.” Syntype ( NHM): cardmounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “ Mesocyphon diver- \ gens, Ind. typ. \D. S. \ West coast. Wakefield.” [written at base of card in Sharp’s hand], “Mesocy- \ phon \ divergens \ ♂ ” [handwritten on genitalia slide], “Sharp Coll. \ 1905-313.”, “ M. divergens ” [handwritten]. Syntype ( NHM): cardmounted, “ Mesocyphon diver- \ gens, Type D. S. \ West coast. Wakefield” [written at base of card in Sharp’s hand], “ Type ” [round label with red border], “Sharp Coll. \ 1905-313.”
Remarks. The species was collected by Wakefield in Otira pass and on the west coast of the South Island (Sharp 1878).
