Range:— Antilles; Mexico to Brazil and Argentina; Africa; Madagascar; southern India and Sri Lanka. In Bolivia, mainly in CH, SC, and TA, with a single record from a dry valley in LP.

Ecology:— Fairly common, terrestrial and saxicolous, occasionally epiphytic, often on rocks near streams, in semihumid forests; to 1500(2000) m. In Mexico, viable spores have been found in soil spore bank down to at least 30 cm depth (del Rosario Ramírez-Trejo et al. 2004).

Notes:— Part of the Asplenium monanthes complex ( Dyer et al. 2012).
