Asplenium hallbergii Mickel & Beitel, Mem. View in CoL New York Bot. Gard. 46: 58. 1988.
Range:— Mexico; Venezuela; Peru, Bolivia (CO); probably more widespread.
Ecology:— Rare; terrestrial or saxicolous in semihumid forests; 3200–3350 m, down to 1500 m elsewhere.
Notes:— Often bears buds sheathed in black, clathrate scales in the axils of some pinnae (buds usually lacking in the closely related A. monanthes ). An apomictic member of the A. monanthes complex ( Dyer et al. 2012). May be conspecific with Asplenium wagneri Mett. ex Kuhn (= A. monanthes var. wagneri (Mett. ex Kuhn) Stolze ) from Ecuador to central Peru. The Bolivian record of Asplenium extensum Fée by Smith et al. (1999) has now been reidentified as this species.
