Range:— Antilles; Guatemala to the Guianas, Bolivia (LP), and Brazil; Africa; Polynesia. The conspecificity of plants from the Paleotropics with those from the Neotropics needs further study.

Ecology:— Uncommon; epiphytic, saxicolous, and terrestrial, often on palms, in humid forests; to 450 m (to 1100 m elsewhere).
