However, this species name was first made available as Nerita maculata View in CoL by Salis Marschlins (1793: 379) based on some of the same figures in Chemnitz (1781: pl. 186 [in Salis Marschlins as “187”], figs 1876-1880). Deshayes (1838) oddly, listed the Chemnitz plates as 260 and 261, but the figures correctly as 1876 - 1880.
