Deshayes credited himself with this name, but it was merely a transfer of Mactra glabrata Gmelin, 1791 , non Linnaeus, 1767, to the genus Mesodesma , but lacking a reference to Gmelin. Mactra glabrata Linnaeus, 1767 , is a species of Mactra . Gmelin’s species is the type (OD) of Atactodea Dall, 1859 ; the valid name of its type species is now Atactodea striata (Gmelin, 1791) [ Mactra ].
