Pseudosmittia parifusata View in CoL sp. n.
( Fig. 87 A View FIGURE 87 )
Type material: Holotype male, SOUTH AFRICA: Natal , Giants Castle Reserve, 1800 m a. s. l., forest, 11.xi.1963, E. Hasselbarth ( ZSM).
Diagnostic characters: The male imago differs from P. fusata in having a much shorter anal point, well developed superior volsella, presence of setae on tergite IX, more setae on clypeus and generally larger size and leg ratios.
Etymology: From the Latin parilis, equal, like, and fusatus, the preceding species, referring to the similarity with that species.
Male imago (n = 1)
Total length and wing length not measurable. Coloration black.
Head. AR 0.45. Terminal flagellomere 171 µm long. Temporal setae 4, consisting of 2 inner verticals, and 2 outer verticals. Clypeus with 12 setae. Tentorium 96 µm long, 16 µm wide. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 15, 21, 33, 43, 46. Third palpomere with 2 lanceolate sensilla clavata.
Thorax. Antepronotal lobes reduced medially, antepronotum with 1 lateral setae. Dorsocentrals 8, acrostichals 2, prealars 3. Scutellum setae not observable.
Wing Not measurable, probably as in P. fusata .
Legs. Spur of front tibia 27 µm long, spurs of middle tibia 17 µm and 15 µm long, of hind tibia 27 µm and 18 µm long. Width at apex of front and middle tibiae each 18 µm, of hind tibia 27 µm. Comb of 12 setae, shortest setae 16 µm long, longest setae 27 µm long. Lengths and proportion of legs as in Table 60.
Hypopygium ( Fig. 87 A View FIGURE 87 ). Anal point 41 µm long, darkly sclerotized; tergite IX with 2 setae; laterosternite IX with 2 setae. Phallapodeme 53 µm long; transverse sternapodeme 34 µm long, no oral projections. Virga not measurable. Gonocoxite 121 µm long; superior volsella well developed, reaching to 0.49 gonocoxite length; inferior volsella and accessory lobe developed, reaching to 0.85 gonocoxite length. Gonostylus 49 µm long, crista dorsalis present but not well developed; megaseta 7 µm long. HR 2.47.
Female, pupa and larva
Unknown.
Distribution
The species is only known from the type locality in South Africa .
