Postcubital fork absent except in P. brevifurcata ; R 4+5 ending proximal to Cu 1 except in P. propetropis ; anal point covered by microtrichia; virga long and with lateral lamella in P. lamellata , P. propetropis and P. tropis , without lateral lamellae and composed of two spines longer than phallapodeme in P. carioca ; superior volsella weak, but present except in P. brevifurcata , bulge-like in P. palpina , superior volsella or inner margin of gonocoxite with strong orally curved microtrichia; inferior volsella without accessory lobe except in P. lamellata and P. carioca ; crista dorsalis evident except in P. carita , often conspicuous. Female known only from P. brevifurcata , tergite IX divided with caudal notch, gonocoxite with caudal projection not surpassing tergite IX. Immatures not known.
