Anal point usually absent in P. acutilobata , otherwise parallel-sided and covered with conspicuous microtrichia;
apodeme lobe wrinkled except in P. invirgata ; median volsella single; accessory lobe of inferior volsella present with at least apex free except in P. acutilobata ; inner surface of gonostylus covered by long and dense microtrichia or numerous setae. Female tergite IX divided into protrusions and caudal concavity or notch. Pupa (known only from P. forcipata ) with tergite IX covered by shagreen and genital sac with basal, ventral spinules. Larva (known only from P. forcipata ) with antennal blade 2–3 times as long as width of basal segment, posterior parapods with 5
claws, each 6–7 µm long.
