Distribution. Cosmopolitan.
Remarks. Coboldia fuscipes is the most widespread scatopsid species known. Its larvae have been found in very different kinds of environments: there are records of larvae connected to a variety of decaying organic matter of vegetal and animal origin ( Haenni and Vaillant, 1994). The larvae, pupae, and biology were described in detail by Rabello and Forattini (1962). Cook (1975) refers to adults of this species reared from Echinocactus polycephalus .
Coboldia fuscipes showed up in the samples of 21 out of the 47 BioSCAN collecting sites. There is an obvious peak of emergence in mid-spring, in April and May, with some additional catches in late autumn. The Bold Systems database has 52 sequenced specimens of C. fuscipes , from North America and Europe, all belonging to a single cluster (http://boldsystems.org/index.php/ Public_SearchTerms?query=%22 Coboldia %20fuscipes%22[tax]).
