Taeniotes orbignyi Guérin-Méneville, 1844: 243 View in CoL .

Taeniotes dorbignyi View in CoL ab. suturalis Aurivillius, 1919: 4.

Remarks. Taeniotes orbignyi was described based on syntypes from Bolivia. Guérin-Méneville (1844) did not indicate the number of specimens. Santos-Silva & Tavakilian (2017) designated lectotype. According to Aurivillius (1919) on the two females from Brazil (Manaus) examined by him: one specimen differs as result of an aberration, in that the elytral suture has an almost continuous row of yellow spots, like amazonum . I call this form as ab. suturalis.” Therefore, although “aberrations” has no nomenclatural value, there is a holotype and not two syntypes as reported by Tavakilian & Chevillotte (2023). Furthermore, the description by Aurivillius (1919) suggests that the aberration is T. cayennensis Thomson, 1859 , and not T. orbignyi . Unfortunately, we have no photographs of the “ holotype ” of T. d’orbignyi ab. suturalis to be sure. Currently, it is known from Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, French Guiana, Brazil (Amazonas and Rondônia), Peru, and Bolivia (Beni, La Paz, Pando, Santa Cruz) ( Monné 2024b; Tavakilian & Chevillotte 2023).

Material examined. BRAZIL, Mato Grosso do Sul (new state record): Bonito, Estância Recanto das Águas, trilha margem rio Mimoso , 20°59’19.1”S 56°31’45.5”W, 407 m, 1 female (ZUFMS-COL-01407), 30.IX.2023, R.S. Olivier & P.J. Costa-Pinto leg. ( ZUFMS) GoogleMaps .
