BASIONYM: Triceratium tripes Brun (1896 , Le Diatomiste 2: 246, pl. XXI, fig. 14). TYPE: ‘ Mount Hillaby’ .

There is insufficient evidence to warrant inclusion of T. tripes within either T. westiana or T. wittiana , with which it shares a number of morphological features. Thus it is retained as a separate species.
