Eudocima boseae ( Saalmüller, 1880)
( Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 : E–F, 19: C, 24: J–L, 31: A, 92: D)
This is a sexually dimorphic species with a banded black, red and yellow abdomen unique to the genus. It is one of only two Eudocima where the dorsal hindwing medial patch is fused with the marginal band; the other species, E. imperator , has an orange dorsal abdomen and a checkered hindwing fringe like other African Eudocima . Eudocima boseae is the only Old World Eudocima species with a double medial patch, although this condition occurs in several New World species including E. memorans , E. collusoria , E. colubra , and E. sepentifera . The female has a narrow green transverse band which is not found in any New World taxa. It is endemic to Madagascar.
