Type locality and specimens. Holotype: ♀, Chile: Juan Fernandez ; December 1932; Ch. Bock leg. Deposited in the collection of the Zoologisches Staatsinstitut und Zoologisches Museum, Hamburg. (Eing. Nr. 15: 1933).
Dimensions. General. Length, 112 mm. Leg pairs, 133.
Type material. Holotype ♀ ( ZMH-A0000546 ). CHILE: Juan Fernández Islands [ca. 33°38’S, 78°50’W]. GoogleMaps
Preservation. 3 microscope slides. Label. Alkoholmaterial (Kopf und Maxillen) + 3 Präparate (Körper + Mandibeln) geschickt an A. Minelli (Januar 1996). Zurück sind nur die Präparate gekommen, das Alkoholmaterial war angeblich (??) nicht im Paket zu finden (siehe Brief vom 9.4.1996 von Minelli) [The alcohol material (head and maxillia) and 3 preparations (body and mandibles) were send to A. Minelli on January 1996. Only the preparations were sent back, the alcohol material was allegedly (??) not in the package (see Minelli’s letter from 9.4.1996)].
Old type catalogue. Rack (1971), p. 107, No. 40. Holotype ♀.
Taxonomic remarks. 3 microscope slides are held at the ZMH (note on file card: “Körper und Mandibeln auf 3 mikroskopischen Präparaten. Kopf und Maxillen in alcohol!”).
Collection remarks. Minelli wrote on 9.4.1996, that he “only got the slides (2 with pieces of the trunk, the 3 rd with mandibles only): That is, I never got the vial with the Head/maxillae.” The alcohol preparation of the original type specimen is lost.
Current systematic position. Metaxythus austrinus ( Crabill, 1968a) .
