Diagnosis. This is the only species of Zadbimyia whose ejaculatory apodeme is as long as the gonocoxites, or even slightly longer ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 C). As another notable character, the ejaculatory apodeme has a long, strongly sclerotized portion beyond the accessory gland ducts.
Other male characters. Body length 1.5 mm. Head. Eye strongly narrowed ventrally, eye bridge 8–9 ommatidia long dorsally. Scape twice as long as pedicel. With 24 flagellomeres, nodes subglobular. Fourth flagellomere ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 A): neck length 0.4 × node length, neck with microtrichia basally. Palpus 4-segmented. Terminalia. Posterior margin of tergite IX concave medially. Gonocoxites ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 C): setae sparse ventromedially, ventral emargination shallow, broadly U-shaped. Gonostylus narrower basally than subapically, evenly curved, broadly rounded apically ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 C). Parameres ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 B, D): basal portion subtrapezoid, apicomedial portion twice as long as wide, 3 pairs of sclerotized processes situated behind one another, subequal in size, curved to various degrees, movable and thus varying in orientation (see Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 B versus Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 D).
Etymology. This species is named after Elvia Zumbado, a long-time parataxonomist and employee at INBio, who assists in sorting to family ZADBI’s enormous amounts of collected specimens.
Types. Holotype. Male, Costa Rica, San José province, Moravia, Zurquí de Moravia, 1600 m, 20 Oct. 2012, CDC light trap, ZADBI Project (ZADBI #171, INBio #105280). Paratypes. 1 male, same locality as the holotype, 24 Sep. 2012, CDC light trap, ZADBI Project (ZADBI #53, INBio #105066); 1 male, same locality, 19 Oct. 2012, CDC light trap, ZADBI Project (ZADBI #151, INBio #105260).
