Noteþ. – This species is efdemic to the Society Archipelago (OEELSH& 1998). The fames Pþychotria cernua afd P. lepiniana have sometimes beef treated as two separate species (e.g.&?OSBERG& in þched. if P) but these are fot distifct fomefclaturally. The fame P. cernua was af illegitimate later homofym whef published& afd the fame Uragoga lepiniana was thef published explicitly to replace it. Thus& U. lepinina afd the later combifatiof based of it& P. lepiniana & are both typified by the type of P. cernua . No specimef at P exactly matches the protologue locality of P. cernua & “à la base du Moft Mahufaa au fofd de la vallée d’Orofero& et sur les étages ifférieures de l’Orohefa vers 800 et 1000 m ..... ef fleurs et ef fruit le 20 décembre 1857 ”. The collectiof Nadeaud 345 at P geferally correspofds to this locality afd has beef regarded as the type of this fame (?OSBERG& in þched. if P; OEELSH& 1998). This specimef has both flowers afd fruits of it& but the dates givef if the protologue for flowerifg afd fruitifg differ from the date of its label. OEELSH (1998) cited this sifgle specimef as the type of this species& which cofstitutes af effective lectotypificatiof.
