Material examined. Paci ®c Ocean , China Sea , Gulf of Thailand. See Appendix for speci®c station data, depth 60±70 m, coll. Battelle Ocean Sciences, August 1990. Sta. EPB-III-C-1 (one specimen), sta. EWP-I-D-1 (one specimen) .
Remarks. Both specimens have a complete thorax and abdomen, but lack the branchial crown. Total lengths are 2.85 and 4.15 mm, and widths are 0.23 and 0.26 mm, respectively. These specimens have the same general collar form as Fabricinuda longilabrum n. sp., but diOEer most notably in that the mid-dorsal medial lobe above the mouth is pigmented dark brown. All specimens of F. longilabrum lack pigmentation, and the body has a more slender appearance. A formal description of this apparent new species should be based on additional, complete specimens. The species appears to diOEer from described species in the distinct distribution of pigmentation on the medial lobe. It co-occurs with F. longilabrum n. sp. and Pseudofabriciola W laris n. sp., and was identi®ed as `Fabriciola sp. 2’ in the environmental study conducted by Battelle Ocean Sciences.
The pigmentation pattern in Fabricinuda sp. is very much like that described by Uebelacker (1984) for specimens she identi®ed as Fabriciola trilobata (now Fabricinuda trilobata , cf. Fitzhugh, 1990a: 170) from the eastern Gulf of Mexico continental shelf. I have not examined Uebelacker’s specimens.
