Acroneuria hainana Wu, 1938: 208 View in CoL ; Claassen, 1940: 174; Illies, 1966: 308; Du et al., 1999: 63; Huang et al., 2015: 52; Murányi & Li, 2016: 182; Yang & Li, 2018: 45.

Sinacroneuria hainana: Du, 2002: 42 .

Redescription. Male habitus ( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 a–6b). General color brown. Head pale brown with dark brown subquadrate ocellar patch; triocellate, two posterior ocelli larger than anterior ocellus; head wider than pronotum; pronotum light brown, corners sharp, subquadrate with scattered paler rugosities. Antennal dark brown except scape pale brown. Apical tenth of femora dark brown to black, tibiae brown to black, remainder paler. Wings pale yellow brown, veins yellow brown.

Male ( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 c–6d, 7a–7b). Sternum 9 moderately elongated and sclerotized except an inverted, subtrapezoidal darkly sclerotized patch linking to hammer which is large, naked and round in ventral view. A short, heavily sclero- tized, rounded posterior lobe that covered basal half part of sternum 10, which extending to hammer in the middle of sternum 9. Paraprocts heavily sclerotized, slender, dark brown and hooked at the tips. Tergum 10 with large mesal oval sensilla basiconica patch, was interrupted by a narrow, subtriangular membranous area in the anterior portion, tergum 9 with several sensilla basiconica; cerci brown.

Aedeagus ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ). Aedeagus membranous. Basal half constricted expanded; apical section bluntly round bearing a pair of thin, brown lateral sclerites with many tiny spines.

Female. Sternum 8 with well-developed semicircular subgenital plate, with a shallow subtriangular posteromedian notch, posterior margin extending and overlapping posterior ⅔ of sternum 9 in alcohol.

Material examined. 2 males, 1 female ( HIST), China: Hainan Island, Hainan Province, Ledong County, Jianfengling , 18.7528 N, 109.1763 E, 800 m, 2007. VI.4–7, J. Zeng GoogleMaps ; 1 male ( HIST), China: Hainan Island, Hainan Province , Baisha County, Yinggeling , 19.2334 N, 109.4411 E, 430 m, 2013. III.30, Y.Y. Wang & Y.L. Jiang GoogleMaps .

Distribution. China (Hainan Province).

Remarks. The fully everted aedeagus clearly lacks the Y-shaped sclerite, a typical feature of the genus Sinacroneuria ( Du 2002; Du et al. 1999, 2001; Murányi & Li 2016). The above redescription of both sexes of A. hainana are nearly identical to the original description, except for tergum 9 of the male lacking scattered sensilla basiconica and the subgenital plate of female extending to anterior margin of sternum 10. These differences are not considered to be specifically important and were possibly overlooked by Wu (1938) in the original description. The female described by Wu (1938) may have been pinned. Acroneuria hainana is most similar to A. bachma Cao & Bae, 2007 sharing a similar leg pattern and a pair of lateral sclerites with aedeagal spines apically. Acroneuria hainana , can be distinguished by the dark ocellar subquadrate patch and lacking a rectangular ventral sclerite on the everted aedeagus. The ocellar patch of head of A. bachma is subtrapezoidal and the basal lobe of everted aedeagus ventrally has a rectangular sclerite bearing a few dark-brown spinules.
