Centris thelyopsis View in CoL n. sp.

( Figs. 9–12 View FIGURES 9 – 12 , 13 View FIGURE 13 )

Comments. Centris thelyopsis n. sp. can be easily distinguished from the two previously known species by its predominant orange pilosity, including that of the hind legs and metasoma. This new species is known only from the type locality in northeastern Goiás, central Brazil.

Description. Female holotype. Measurements: approximate body length: 13.5; head width: 4.97; forewing length: 8.75; F1 length: 0.35; F2 length: 0.2; F3 length: 0.16; mandible length: 2.16; mandible basal width: 0.92. Coloration: black, with labrum, lower paraocular area, supraclipeal area, lateral areas of the clypeus, mandibular base, tegula and base of fore and midtibiae yellow. Wings membrane light brown infuscated, slightly darker than in C. hyptidis . Pilosity: predominantly yellow, slightly darker in mesoscutum and scutellum, and whitish in lateral areas of mesosoma and lower portions of gena. Fore and midlegs with orange brown pilosity, lighter on tarsi. Inner surface of foretarsi with short pilosity, spatulate and slightly curved. Metasoma with short orange pilosity, with some intermingled black setae on disc of T1; T2 with predominantly black pilosity; in other terga, the orange pilosity is longer, forming bands in T3 and T4. Prepygidial fimbria formed by orange, mostly plumose pilosity, pygidial fimbria similar, except for mostly simple setae. Hindtibial scopa with yellow, long, coarse and branched bristles. Labrum with yellow pilosity, not dense and predominantly simple, with some branched setae near its upper border. Clypeal disc glabrous, with some long, yellow and simple setae located next to the epistomal suture. Lower paraocular area with yellow pilosity, with some long and simple hairs; short and branched hairs on upper portion. Vertex with abundant yellow branched bristles with dark orange apex. Wing cell membrane with abundant pilosity. Integument: labrum with relatively coarse and uniform but not very dense punctures. Clypeus with marked and denser punctures on disc, its midline smooth and elevated. Lower paraocular area with less marked punctures and fine reticulation. Structure: mandible quadridentate, 2.3 times longer than wide; trimmal angle acute. Maxillary palpi four-segmented. Labrum semicircular, 1.47 times wider than long. Ocular orbits slightly divergent above. Fore elaiospathe with primary anterior comb located almost immediately under the strigilar concavity, without internal coarse bristles. Secondary anterior comb reduced to 2 coarse and short setae. Elaiospathe of midlegs with slightly separated setae. Fore and mid trochanters with basal laminar projection, more evident in the former. Claws with internal tooth and simple hairs in the base. Primary basitibial plate oval, with concave basal end, secondary plate rudimentary, evidenced by a small partly elevated portion over the primary plate, in lateral view. Pygidial plate with rounded apex, without secondary plate. S1 to S3 with translucent distal marginal zone.

Male paratype. Measurements: approximate body length: 12.6; head width: 4.76; forewing length: 9.5; F1: 0.64; F2: 0.16; F3: 0.3; mandible length: 1.8; mandible basal width: 0.78. Coloration: similar to the female, except by presenting the base of hindtibia and scape beneath yellow. In addition, the yellow spot of fore tibiae is extended downward. Integument: similar to the female, except for less evident smooth area of clypeus. Pilosity: similar to the female, except for presence of long and abundant pilosity in the lateral areas of S5 forming a semicircular fringe. Structure: mandible tridentate, 2.3 times longer than wide. Trimmal angle acute. Labrum semicircular, 1.3 times wider than long. Ocular orbits slightly divergent above. Hind femora and tibia slightly swelled. Pygidial plate present, slightly elevated and apically bifurcated.

Type material. Holotype female, Brazil, Goiás, 24 km NE of Teresina de Goiás, 13°34'53”S 47°11'7”W, 450m, 05.iv.2003, Melo, Aguiar, Marchi and Gonçalves em Angelonia . Paratypes: 2 females and 2 males,
