Recognition. Based on a molecular phylogenetic analysis, Janšta et al. (2018) demonstrated the monophyly of the tribe Torymini , containing Austorymus Bouček , Diomorus Walker , Ecdamua Walker , Lissotorymus Kamijo , Mesodiomorus Strand , Nannocerus Mayr , Odopoia Walker , Ovidia Girault , Physothorax Mayr , Plesiostigmodes Ashmead , and Torymus Dalman. Members of Torymini share an anteriorly produced metapleuron (see fig. 10 of Grissell 1995; Janšta et al. 2018). Torymus has been keyed and differentiated from other torymids in several papers, including Bouček (1988), Grissell (1976, 1995), and Zerova et al. (2003), who employed the following features to characterize the genus: in dorsal view, ocelli arranged in a triangle; occipital carina present; scape without lamina; flagellum consisting of 1 anellus, 7 funicular segments, and 3 claval segments, with first funicular (F1) sometimes anelliform; pronotal collar transverse in dorsal view; mesoscutum reticulate, smooth or with transverse striae but without distinct, raised, transverse striae like most Megastigmus Dalman ; anterior margin of metapleuron produced; propodeal spiracle not encircled by carina; hind femur without a tooth; metatibia straight, with apex truncate; marginal vein at least 3 times as long as postmarginal vein; stigmal vein connected to marginal vein at angle less than 90°; petiole inconspicuous; metasomal tergite III weakly incised medially.
