1.10. Commelina texcocana Matuda (1955a: 60–61)

Type: — MEXICO. México state: Texcoco, Molino de la Flor, 2300 m, 6 August 1950, E. Matuda 19249 (lectotype [designated by Espejo-Serna & López-Ferrari 1995: 8] MEXU-00090886! [ Figure 11 ]; isolectotypes F-1495806 barcode V0045324 F!, F-1613632 barcode V0045323 F!, MEXU-00090880!) .

= Commelina diffusa var. cordispatha Rohweder (1956: 159–160) (syn. nov.)

Type: — EL SALVADOR. Chalatenango: Weg Hda. Sta. Cruz – “La Laguna” n. Chalatenango, 700 m, 25 November 1950, O. Rohweder 882 (lectotype [designated here] HBG-514345! [ Figure 12 ]; isolectotypes HBG-514346!, HBG-514347!) .

Notes: —The protologue of C. diffusa var. cordispatha ( Rohweder 1956: 159–160) provided the following information on the type: “Belegexemplare: R 881 ( HBG): Dpt. San Salvador, Cerro Chulo. 30. 10. 1950.— R 882 ( HBG): Dpt. Chalatenango, Hda. Sta. Cruz. 25. 11. 1950.” and “Typus: R 882”. I was able to locate three syntypes (Art. 9.6 of the ICN), HBG-514345, HBG-514346 and HBG-514347, all in agreement with the morphological information provided in the protologue. One of these syntypes, the specimen HBG-514345 ( Figure 12 ), is stamped “ HOLOTYPUS ” on a label on the sheet, and is thus designated here as lectotype. Morphology of the lectotype indicates that C. diffusa var. cordispatha should be considered a synonym of C. texcocana . Here I am following the concept of C. texcocana as in Hunt (1994) and Grant et al. (2003).
