Species Hoplomys gymnurus (Thomas 1897)

Discussion: Revised by Handley (1959 a). Patton and Reig (1989:90) demonstrated that this genus is very close to Proechimys , and may be congeneric, a view supported by DNA sequence analyses ( Lara et al., 1996).
