LM description ( Fig. 1, 1 View FIGURE 1 –3)
Pollen class: Monosulcate. Monad, heteropolar, slightly asymmetric to symmetric.
Aperture: Simple; sulcus usually open with rounded apices or narrow to slit-like and slightly sunken, slightly shorter than polar view long axis. There is a margo and it is diffused.
Outlines: Polar view: ellipsoidal to pyriform. Equatorial view: peroblate to oblate, ellipsoidal to subrectangular when the sulcus is sunken.
Exine: Tectate; tectum uniformly and abundantly perforate with indistinct columellae. Sexine as thick as nexine, both decreasing in thickness close to the sulcus.
Ornamentation: Tectum surface psilate.
Measurements: Glycerine jelly and LM—polar view long axis 35.84 (31–42), short axis I 19.47 (17–23), short axis II 17(13–20), equatorial view P 16.54 (13–21.5), E 34.67 (33–38), P/E ratio 0.47 (0.34–0.61); sulcus large, 30.27 (23–38), 2.46 (0.5–5) wide; sexine 0.54 (0.5–0.7), nexine 0.54 (0.5–0.7), exine 1–1.5.
SEM description ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 4–5)
Monads are elliptic to slightly pyriform, and therefore slightly asymmetric. Sulcus open, slightly sunken, with rounded apices and straight borders. The sulcus membrane presents visible wrinkling of the aperture membrane. This irregular appearance, resembling a series of aligned scales, could be related to chemical processing of the sample. The tectum is abundantly perforated; perforations are less than 1μm diameter and the surface of the tectum is psilate.
TEM description ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 6–7)
TEM shows well defined exine (ectexine) structure with a continuous thin foot layer, thin and large columellae and thick and perforated tectum. Exine thickness decreases toward the border of the sulcus (diffused margo).
