atrata Nagatomi & Nagatomi, 1987 View in CoL

= Austroleptis sp. Nagatomi, 1984: 125.

Austroleptis atrata Nagatomi & Nagatomi, 1987: 141–144 View in CoL (head, figs. 1–2; female terminalia, fig. 3). Type material: holotype, female (it should be deposited in BBM according to Nagatomi & Nagatomi, 1987, but was not found; presumed lost). Type locality: Chile: Puerto Williams, Isla Navarino.

References. Nagatomi, 1984: 125 (male terminalia, figs. 60–63, as Austroleptis spec. ); Nagatomi & Nagatomi, 1987: 141 (in key); Stuckenberg, 2001: 21 (head and wing, figs. 12–14, modified from Nagatomi & Nagatomi, 1987), 22 (male terminalia, fig. 15).

Distribution. Argentina: Tierra del Fuego Province (Ushuaia). Chile: Magallanes Region: Antártica Chilena Province (Isla Navarino, Puerto Williams) ( Figs 73, 74 View FIGURE 73–79 ).

Comments. The specimen identified by Nagatomi (1984: 125) as Austroleptis sp. , male, from “ Chile, Aysén Puerto Aysén, 24–26.i.1961, Pena [Peña]”, as one can read, of which the male terminalia was illustrated by him (see Nagatomi 1984: 125, figs. 60–63), was later assigned to A. atrata by Nagatomi & Nagatomi (1987: 143). They, however, mentioned that the illustrated specimen in 1984 is from “[ Argentina, Tierra del Fuego], Ushuaia, 8-26.ii.1961, B. Malkin”, which is followed here, as this locality is near the type locality: Puerto Williams, Chile. This species is, therefore, only known from two specimens, the holotype and the additional male ( Nagatomi 1984; Nagatomi & Nagatomi 1987). The depository institution of the holotype is currently unknown as it was not found in the BBM, CNC, NMHUK, or USNM collections.
