Iphinoe crassipes Hansen, 1895 View in CoL

Iphinoe crassipes Hansen, 1895: 53 View in CoL , pl.4; Stebbing, 1910: 412, pl. 45; Jones, 1956: 202; LeLoeuff & Intes, 1972: 43; Day, 1978: 224–230, figs. 26–27; Corbera, 1994: 273; Mühlenhardt-Siegel, 1996: 120 –121, pl. 2, figs. 1–6. Iphinoe macrobrachium Calman, 1904

Material examined. 4 females, 7.8 mm (St. 13: grab sampling; 15°00.048´S, 12°07.685´E); 1 female (St. 6: grab sampling; 9°26.000´S, 12°59.974´E)

Remarks. The differentiation of a subspecies Iphinoe crassipes haifae Bacescu, 1961 was not followed by later authors, for instance Day (1978), Corbera (1994) and Mühlenhardt-Siegel (1996) because the differences exhibited between individuals from different areas are not consistent enough (Day, 1978). The species is close related to Iphinoe pokoui LeLoeuff & Intes, 1972 , it may by easily distinguished by a very wide antennal notch with a narrow serrate elongate anterolateral angle and the lengths of rami of the uropods.

Distribution. Europe (Mediterranean), North West Africa ( Senegal – Togo), West Africa ( Angola), South Africa (Saldanha Bay– Natal), Red Sea, India, Sri Lanka; 6–115 m
