Diagnosis. Externally the new species looks intermediate between E. variegata and E. ornata . It can be recognized by yellow-brownish grey wing color, more brownish than in E. variegata and E. ornata , more smooth, not angled antemedial line, dark medial shadow, expressed in costal field, less angled than in E. ornata reniform and wide rounded extension of subterminal line; the area restricted by submedial line and extension of postmedial line suffused with whish scales. Hindwing much darker than those in E. variegata and E. ornata , with pale subanal dash. By male genitalia it is closer to E. ornata , but differs by longer narrow vinculum, longer valva and long, pointed harpe. Aedeagus much longer and thinner than in E. variegata and E. ornata , vesica with two basal diverticula and subapical one. Female genitalia differ from E. ornata by small cup-like with medially cut antrum, long membranous ductus bursae and much smaller rounded corpus bursae.
Description. Adult ( Figs. 7, 8 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ). Wingspan: male 34–37 mm, female 39 mm. Head and thorax greyish-yellow; forewing color somewhat more greyish-brown than in E. variegata and E. ornata ; wing pattern more developed than in E. variegata , but more smooth than in E. ornata . Basal line as small dot in costal area; subbasal line complete, diffused, shadowed with dark reddish-brown; antemedial line thin, brown curved basally on Cu-trunk; not joined with submedial line on anal margin as in E. ornata ; orbicular distinct, elongate, formed by thin brown border like, shadowed by distinct medial shadow in costal area, joined with reniform by dark brown streak; medial shadow rather strong in costal area, traceable and diffused in medial field; reniform c-like, angled basally; postmedial line angled outward at vein M2, apical angle with oblique pale yellowish dash, contrasting with darker greyish-yellow costal area, followed from apex and surrounded with triangular brownish patch below; subterminal line, thin; sharply angled basally and strongly curved outward on veins Cu2-Cu3; veins in subterminal and terminal fields suffused with whitish; area between submarginal line and extension of subterminal line yellowish-grey, with reddish-brown dash and suffusion of whitish scales; terminal field pale brownish, with whitish veins and pale yellowish-grey subanal patch; cilia brownish, yellowish-white opposite veins. Hindwing yellowish-grey, darker than in E. variegata and E. ornata , with dark greyish suffusion in central part, yellowish costal and subanal parts. Cilia whitish-grey. Male genitalia ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 15 – 17 ). Abdomen: coremata present as paired brush in the base and unpaired brush on 7th segment of abdomen. ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 18 – 20 ). Tegument broad and high, shorter than vinculum; vinculum massive, narrow, much longer than in E. ornata ; uncus curved basally, cylindrical, longer than in E. ornata , with minute apical hook; scaphium slightly sclerotised in basal half; juxta small, plate-like, transtilla broad, valva with parallel margins slightly extended apically and oblique-rounded apically; costa broad; sacculus as long as half of valva; harpe rather large, directed longitudinally, tapered and pointed apically. Aedeagus long, thinner and longer than in E. ornata , with sclerotised plate of carina; vesica moderate, with two subbasal diverticula, one of them armed with minute granulate cornuti, and with one subapical divertilum covered with minute granulation. Female genitalia ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 21 – 24 ). Papillae anales quadrangular, apophyses anteriores and posteriores strong, almost equal in length, antrum small, cup-like, with triangular cut in middle; ductus bursae long, membranous; corpus bursae small rounded.
Etymology. The name refers to the more greyish forewing color, compared to E. variegata and E. ornata .
Distribution ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 25 – 30 ). North Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia. Moths collected in November and December.
