TYPE SPECIES: Myoxus chrysurus Zimmermann, 1780 .
SYNONYMS: Echinomys , Loncheres , Nelomys , Phyllomys .
COMMENTS: Formerly included armatus which is the type species of the genus Makalata (see that account). Makalata is not recognized by Eisenberg (1989), nor Emmons and Feer (1990). Emmons and Feer separated Nelomys from Echimys , but here it is synonymized.
