TYPE LOCALITY: Colombia, Dept. Boyacâ, Muzo (valley of Rio Carare) .

DISTRIBUTION: E Colombia.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Proechimys . Listed as a subspecies of cayennensis (= guyannensis) by Cabrera (1961:521), but as a species by Corbet and Hill (1991:205) and Nowak (1991:943). Not listed by Eisenberg (1989).
