1. Stranvaesia Lindley (1837 : t. 1956). Type species: Stranvaesia glaucescens Lindley (1837 : t. 1956).

Trees, evergreen, branch of young trees usually spiny. Leaves alternate, simple, leathery, margin serrate; stipules present, usually caducous. Inflorescences terminal, compound-corymbose, many flowered. Rachis and pedicels sparsely to densely tomentose. Hypanthium cupular, adnate to ovary or free near apex. Sepals 5, persistent, short. Petals 5, contorted or imbricate in bud, base clawed. Stamens 20. Carpels (2–) 5; ovary semi-inferior, (2–) 5-loculed, in fruit free apically; styles (2–) 5, ± connate; ovules 2 per locule, erect. Fruit a pome, globose or ovoid, somewhat fleshy, (2–) 5-loculed, free from hypanthium near apex, with persistent, incurved sepals; carpel crustaceous or membranous, each locule 1–2-seeded; seeds erect, testa leathery.

About 3 species, distributed in east and southeast Asia.
