Ichthydium (Ichthydium) minimum Brunson, 1950 View in CoL
Records from India. MAHARASTRA: Nagpur— Visvesvara (1963) ; GENERAL RECORD: Naidu & Rao (2004).
Habitat (as in Indian record). Freshwater; among filamentous algae and aquatic plants.
Distribution. USA and India.
Remarks. This species has been found only once in India. Visvesvara (1963) reported that the Indian specimens are morphologically similar to the American specimens except for their size (total length 90-114 μm vs 70 μm). The furcal appendages (14-18 μm vs 11 μm), and the pharynx (36-42 μm vs 20 μm) are also reported longer. In consideration of these discrepancies, we regard the presence of this species in India to be provisional (i.e., not fully proven).
