Psyrassa unisucre View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 11–14 View FIGURES 11 – 14 )
Description. Holotype female. Integument shiny, reddish-brown, ventrally slightly darker.
Head. Frontal plate transverse, smooth centrally, with some sparse punctures laterally. Area between frontal plate and vertex with deep, transverse sulcus at each side of center. Area between antennal tubercles and upper eye lobes finely punctate. Genae, in dorsal view, subacute at apex; long, with area between lower eye lobes and mandibles moderately long; finely, sparsely punctate; with short, decumbent, sparse, yellowish setae, more abundant toward clypeus, interspersed with some long, erect setae, primarily toward ventral region. Antennal tubercles slightly punctate; with short, decumbent, yellowish setae. Coronal suture distinct from apex of frontal plate to area at level of posterior ocular edge. Gula smooth, glabrous. Submentum transversely striate (striate-punctate toward mentum); with short, erect, moderately sparse, yellowish setae interspersed with long, erect setae. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.89 times length of scape; distance between lower eye lobes in frontal view 1.00 times length of scape. Antennae 1.15 times elytral length, reaching apical third of elytra. Scape coarsely, abundantly punctate; with short, moderately sparse yellowish setae, ventrally interspersed with long, erect setae. Antennomeres III–XI with short, decumbent yellowish setae, ventrally with long, erect yellowish setae, gradually shorter, sparser toward distal segment. Apical spine of antennomere III slightly curved, rhombus at apex, with 0.86 times length of antennomere; apical spine of antennomere IV with 0.48 times length of antennomere; apical spine of antennomere V with 0.26 times length of antennomere; apical spine of antennomere VI with 0.21 times length of antennomere; apical spine of antennomere VII with 0.11 times length of antennomere; antennomere VIII with spicule at inner apex. Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III (excluding spine): scape = 1.30; pedicel = 0.21; IV = 0.76; V = 0.79; VI = 0.86; VII = 0.92; VIII = 0.86; IX = 0.84; X = 0.68; XI = 0.87.
Thorax. Prothorax longer than wide (1.4 times); sides rounded about middle, with basal constriction; with long, sparse yellow setae on nearly all surface. Lateral surface of prothorax striate, coarser toward ventral region; basal plate with band with yellowish pubescence centrally, not obscuring integument; remaining surface with short and long, moderately abundant, erect yellowish setae (more abundant on large central area). Pronotum with transverse sulcus close to base, continuing that on sides of prothorax, not reaching center; surface with shallow, coarse punctures, except on smooth longitudinal central area. Prosternum transversely striate, mainly on basal 2/3, with moderately coarse punctures laterally. Ventral side of mesothorax with golden pubescence, denser on sides and in mesosternum, mesepisterna, and entire mesepimera. Metepisternum with abundant golden pubescence. Metasternum with long, sparse yellowish setae. Scutellum with dense golden pubescence. Elytra. Coarsely, abundantly punctate basally, gradually finer, sparser toward apex; apex emarginate, bispinose, spines with similar size at outer and sutural angles; with short, erect, sparse (more abundant laterally) yellowish setae interspersed with long, erect, yellowish setae. Legs. With long, erect, sparse, yellowish setae. Tibiae carinate laterally.
Abdomen. Ventrites finely, sparsely punctate; with short, suberect, sparse yellowish setae (more abundant laterally), interspersed with some longer setae; apex of ventrite V truncate.
Dimensions. Total length, 15.51; prothorax: length, 3.17; anterior width, 2.19; posterior width, 2.19; largest prothoracic width, 2.29; humeral width, 2.68; elytral length, 10.42.
Type material. Holotype female from COLOMBIA, Sucre: Sincelejo , Campus de la Universidad de Sucre (09°19′3.87″ N / 75°23′11.5″ W), 14.V.2016, O. Sierra col. ( MZUS) GoogleMaps .
Etymology. The new species is named after Universidad de Sucre on the 39th anniversary of its foundation; furthermore, Sucre is the type locality.
Remarks. Psyrassa unisucre sp. nov. resembles P. testacea Linsley, 1935 by the general color of the body and the yellowish pubescence, but differs as follows: antennomeres III–VII with distinct spine at inner apex; spine of antennomere III curved and with rhombus apex; apex of elytra spiniform. In P. testacea only the antennomeres III–VI have distinct spine at inner apex, the spine of antennomere III is straight and acute at the apex and the apex of elytra are dentiform.
