Pterygosoma cyanogasteri sp. nov.

( Figs. 16–20 View FIGURE 16 View FIGURE 17 View FIGURE 18 View FIGURE 19 View FIGURE 20 )

Description. FEMALE (holotype). Gnathosoma . Gnathosoma slightly recessed into ventral side. Cheliceral base 100 long, cheliceral shaft 90 long (in 6 paratypes 75 and 90 long, respectively). Fixed cheliceral digit with spinous process ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 A). Palpal femur and genu with setae serrated at distal part, 70 long and 60 long, respectively. Subcapitular setae n 85 long. Peritremes with barely discernible chambers, without free lateral parts of peritremal branches (several paratypes with free peritremal branches, maximum 5 long). Hypostome 205 long. Idiosoma 695 long (515–680 in 10 paratypes) and 1130 wide (965 x1150). Dorsum ( Figs. 16 View FIGURE 16 A–B). Anterior-mid setal cluster with about 60 setae, approximately 35 long ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 B). Lateral to this cluster about 230 setae on each side present, 35– 60 long. Among them 1 longer setae (95 long) on each lateral margin. Plumose setae, 17–21 pairs, located anterior to each side of pseudoanal area. Postero-lateral part of idiosoma with 15 pairs of setae serrated apically, 170–215 long. Peripheral series represented by 12–13 pairs of distally serrated setae. Venter ( Fig. 17 View FIGURE 17 ) with 14–18 pairs of setae vm, 20–70 long, located anterior to genital area. All setae vm serrated, except for 1 pair of filiform setae situated next to genital area. Peripheral part of body with 20–25 pairs of postero-lateral setae and 9–10 pairs of peripheral slightly serrated setae. Most part of genital slit situated ventrally. Genital series represented by smooth setae g1 and 5 pairs of pseudoanal setae ps, setae ps1 – ps3 located dorsally, ps4–5 situated ventrally ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 C). Legs. Coxal setae 3a slightly serrated. Leg chaetotaxy: genua I–IV (5-4-3-3), femora I–IV (5-5-3-3). Setae tc’ and tc ” of legs II–IV slender and serrated only at distal margins.

Type material. Female holotype and 10 female paratype from Liolaemus cyanogaster (Duméril and Bibron) ( Squamata : Liolaemidae ) [body ventral surface]; CHILE: 19 June 1886 (date of deposition in ZMUC), coll. Mr Jessen. Mites were removed by M. Fajfer.

Type material deposition. Holotype and most paratypes in the ZMUC (ZMUC-R37901); 3 paratypes in the AMU (AMU-PTE6.1) and 3 paratypes in the ZISP.

Etymology. The name cyanogasteri refers to the species name of the host.

Differential diagnosis. This new species is similar to Pterygosoma levissima sp. nov. In females of both species, setation of legs I–IV is the same, all coxal setae are filiform except for slightly serrated setae 3d, the antero-dorsal setae are subequal in the length, a large number of plumose setae (about 230 pairs) are present on the idiosomal dorsum, the pseudoanal series includes five pairs of setae ps, setae ps1 – ps3 are located dorsally, ps4–5 are situated ventrally, one pair of filiform setae vm is present. This new species differs from P. levissima by the following features: in females of P. cyanogasteri , the cheliceral shaft and the base differ in the length, the fixed cheliceral digit is with a spinous process, the free peritremal branches are maximum 5 long, the palpal setae dF and dG are serrated only at the distal part, there are 12–13 pairs of peripheral setae on the dorsum, all postero-lateral and peripheral setae are slightly serrated, setae tc’ and tc ” of legs III–IV are slender and only slightly serrated at the distal part. In females of P. levissima , the cheliceral shaft and the base are the same length, the fixed cheliceral digit is reduced, the free lateral branches of peritremes are 40 long, setae dF and dG are serrated, there are 21–23 pairs of the peripheral setae on the dorsum, all long ventral setae are smooth and tapering at the end, setae tc’ and tc ” of legs III–IV are clearly serrated.
