BolbaOEer abyssinicus species-group

This species-group is the largest and comprises B. mozambiquensis , B. sasakii , B. sebastiani , B. namibiensis and B. abyssinicus . Males and females share: outer margin of mandible rounded, rarely very feebly sinuate; and in general the most abundant and unique sternal and pygidial modi®cations. Males share: anterior margin of pronotum medially mostly bituberculate / bihorned, particularly in major males (e.g. ®gure 4o); sternite 4 medially with erect process (e.g. ®gure 23a±c); sternite 5 very broad and antero-medially and along posterior margin with peculiar modi®cations

FIG. 14. Distributional records: BolbaOEer coriaceus (E); B. dudleyi (_); B. abditus (y).

(e.g. ®gure 23b, c); and sternite 6 deeply divided with two lateral lobes of similar shape (®gures 22b, i, 23b, i, 24b). Females share: area anterior to pronotal carinate swelling with very densely spaced small or (rarely) large, deep punctures (shaded area in e.g. ®gure 4t); sternite 5 postero-medially discernibly swollen (e.g. ®gure 22o) with the exception of one species; sternite 6 in posterior view with thickened, usually strongly (e.g. ®gure 24h), rarely feebly sclerotized margin; and in most species pygidium apically divided, in that case mirroring a similar pattern found in their male counterparts.
