Diagnosis. Frontal vitta yellow. First flagellomere oblong with arista apical. Ocellar tubercle blackish-brown, well delimited by color behind the yellow frontal vitta. Scutum dorsally with two white pruinescent stripes, separated by wide median brown stripe that narrows after transverse suture. Pleuron variable in color, from pale brown to entirely yellow. Katatergite yellow.
Male. Body length 6.3–8.2 mm. Wing length 4.8–6.4 mm and width 1.4–1.6 mm. Yellowish-brown or paler with partly yellow head and thorax ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 A).
Head. Somewhat elongate; 1.1–1.6 mm length and 1.0– 1.1 mm width. Frontal vitta yellow ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 C). Frontoorbital plate black; distal half yellowish, between the two anterior pairs of fronto-orbital setae. Ocellar tubercle rounded and well-delimited by color behind the yellow frontal vitta. Postocellar seta slightly convergent, length 1.7–2.5 times transverse diameter of ocellar tubercle; inner vertical seta slightly convergent, equal to outer vertical seta; outer vertical seta divergent, subequal to postocellar seta. Genal seta length 80% length of postocellar seta. Postgena subtly narrowing posteriorly. Occiput brown; height twice length ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 D). Antennal base brown. Antennae length 50–60% length of head. Scape yellow; 0.1–0.2 mm long. Pedicel same color as scape; 0.2 mm long; inner process of pedicel finger-like and relatively narrow. First flagellomere oblong; 0.4–0.5 mm long; length, 1.6–1.8 times width. Arista apical and bare.
Thorax. Scutum dorsally with two white pruinescent stripes, separated by wide median brown stripe that narrows after transverse suture; pleuron variable in color, from pale brown to entirely yellow. Anterior notopleural seta inconspicuous to absent. Posterior notopleural seta length 60% length of scutellar seta; inserted on small blackish-brown tubercle. Supra-alar seta slender and subequal to postalar seta. Postalar seta equal to dorsocentral seta. Dorsocentral seta length 70% length of scutellar seta. Scutellar seta length 80–90% length of scutellum. Proepisternum with short anteroventral spine-like seta. Katepisternum variable in color; with black and straight seta (absent in several males). Katatergite yellow; length 1.6 times width. Anatergite and mediotergite yellowishbrown with anatergite sometimes yellow.
Legs. Mid coxa same color as pleuron, with one lateral seta. Femora yellow with two distomedial brown rings, sometimes one third ring on proximal half; mid femur anteriorly with three or four median setae.
Wing ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 E). Basicosta with ventral conspicuous short and slender seta. Halter whitish-yellow.
Abdomen. Pale brown to yellow with bluish reflections and dorsally with median yellow stripe fron tergite 1 to tergite 4 or tergite 6. Syntergite 7+8 and epandrium yellow.
Female. Similar to male, differs as follows: body length 5.9–8.0 mm ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 B). Wing length 4.8–6.4 mm and width 1.4–1.8 mm. Fore coxa with one anterolateral seta. Oviscape yellowish-brown; with dorsal brown stripe narrowing posteriorly; length twice maximum width.
Comments. Pleuron of G. flavifrons varies greatly in color. Darker specimens with pleuron brown have anepisternum and katepisternum partly yellow, while paler specimens have pleuron entirely yellow and some individuals from Ecuador also have abdomen yellow. Hennig (1937) notes that general color and morphology of his new species O. seductrix , was very similar to Odontoscelia striativentris (today trated as a junior synonym of O. limbatus ) form southern Brazil, but the latter could be differentiated by not having pubescent arista. Aczél (1961) states difficulties to properly place O. seductrix and based on the original description, suggested it could be synonym of either G. (O.) limbatus or G. (O.) flavifrons . The holotype of O. seductrix with pleuron yellow, may do Aczél (1961) believe that this species belongs to the pale yellowish-brown G. (O.) limbatus , despite its bare arista. Here we propose O. seductrix as a junior synonym of G. (O.) flavifrons , after comparing the holotype of O. seductrix with specimens of G. (O.) flavifrons from Central and South America. We find that G. seductrix is, in fact, a paler specimen of G. flavifrons which can be differentiated from G. (O.) limbatus by the arista bare and frontal vitta yellow.
