Regalecus glesne Ascanius, 1772 View in CoL

A live King of herrings, Regalecidae ( Fig. 4A View Figure 4 ), was observed by C. Gicqueau on 5 Apr. 2018 beached in the Bay of Port-Cros (Var, Mediterranean Sea, France), at 43.0083°N, 6.3834°E ( Gicqueau et al., 2018). The individual was about 160 cm TL. The specimen was released off northern Port-Cros. This specimen was previously recorded by Peirache et al. (2018). This species is uncommonly recorded both in French waters ( Quéro et al., 2003b) and globally ( Roberts, 2012). In the last few years several individuals of the species have regularly been observed off Nice in the Mediterranean in the vicinity of a weather buoy ( Loyer, 2015).
