5. Ptomaphagus (s. str.) variicornis (Rosenhauer, 1847) Zoogeographic element. Euro-Caucasian.
Distribution. in the north from England to South Scandinavia, from Central to Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. The southern limits of the range include the Pyrenees, northern Italy and Romania. Distribution in Romania. Epigeal records. Bihor Mt., Rodna-Valea Vinului (LN36), Sibiu (KL77), Reşiţa (ER61) (all: Kuthy 1896); Braşov (LL85), Sighişoara (LM21), Buduş (LN11), Vârghiş (LM80), Predeal (ML20) (Petri 1912; Jeannel 1936); Piatra Craiulului (Seaca Valley, 15.V.2009, AN leg., ISER) (LL63). Hypogeal records. P. Poarta Bihariei (FS25) (Decou 1964) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ).
Ecological status. Trogloxene.
