Native to Central South America: southern Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and northern Argentina ( Fassett 1951, Lansdown and Hassemer 2021). Naturalised in Australia ( Lansdown and Hassemer 2021, Lansdown 2022), Europe ( Lansdown 2006a, Lansdown 2008, Raab-Straube 2014), Africa ( Lansdown et al. 2017a, Lansdown et al. 2022), Taiwan ( Chen et al. 2013) and Japan (newly reported here).
