Distribution. Bolivia and Brazil, in the state of Mato Grosso.
The description of Brontostoma diringshofeni , based on a single male from Bolivia ( Figs. 24–25 View FIGURES 24–27 ), included the description and figures of the male genitalia ( Gil-Santana & Baena 2009). This species was further recorded from Brazil by Gil-Santana et al. (2013a) based on a single male too. Although Gil-Santana et al. (2013a) stated that the specimen examined by them was very similar to the holotype, they did not record that it showed a faint reddish tinge at basolateral portions of connexivum, somewhat more pronounced on the first segments (see their fig. 3), a characteristic not evident in the holotype ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 24–27 ). Nevertheless, this small difference is considered here as a color variation of the species, as commonly observed in ectrichodiines, including species of Brontostoma ( Wygodzinsky 1951; Gil-Santana 2020b). Alternatively, taking into account that the specimen recorded by Gil-Santana et al. (2013a) was collected more than 30 years after the holotype, it is possible that the holotype was partially faded and had lost the reddish tinge of the connexivum. In order to clarify the actual significance of this variation, it would be necessary to examine more specimens, preferably freshly collected.
