Lejeunea helmsiana (Stephani) Stephani (1915: 796) .
Eulejeunea helmsiana Stephani (1896: 89) .
Lectotype (designated here):— NEW ZEALAND. Without locality, Helms [345?], ex herb. Steph. (G- 19618!).
Lejeunea pocsii Schuster (1998: 84)
Type :— NEW ZEALAND. '' North I.: Mamaku Plateau, w. of Lake Rotorua, ca. 400 m. '' 26 January 1995, R. M. Schuster 95-230 ( holotype: hb. Schuster.), syn. fide Renner et al. (2009) .
The protologue of L. helmsiana cited collections by Helms and Colenso ( Stephani 1896). Renner et al. (2009) did not lectotypify L. helmsiana as an exhaustive search for syntype material had not been conducted. A search for specimens ex herb. Stephani in Geneva ( G), London Museum of Natural History ( BM) and Farlow ( FH) failed to yield syntype material collected by Colenso. As the Helms collection ex herb. Stephani in Geneva is a good match with the protologue of the species described for him, his gathering in herb. Steph. is designated the lectotype.
