Like Bryophaenocladius conicus View in CoL , in the same paper, Freeman (1953) described another species, Pseudorthocladius lobiger View in CoL . It was transferred to Synorthocladius View in CoL by Freeman & Cranston (1980) and listed as such by Harrison (2004). According to the original description and figure by Freeman (1953), it lacks an anal point and has a tongueshaped inferior volsella; it therefore might not belong to the genus Synorthocladius View in CoL . Nonetheless, we tentatively maintain it in the genus Synorthocladius View in CoL , recognizing that its taxonomic status remains uncertain until the type specimen can be examined.
