Trichoclinocera Collin View in CoL
Trichoclinocera Collin, 1941: 237 View in CoL . Type-species, T. stackelbergi Collin View in CoL (original designation). Seguyella Vaillant, 1960: 179 nec Kelsey (1969: 294). Type-species, S. rostrata Vaillant View in CoL (original designation). Sinclair, 1994: 1012 (synonymy).
Acanthoclinocera Saigusa, 1965: 53 . Type-species, A. dasyscutellum Saigusa View in CoL (original designation). Sinclair, 1994: 1012 (synonymy).
Recognition. Trichoclinocera View in CoL is phenetically most similar to Wiedemannia View in CoL , but is readily distinguished from that genus by setae on vein R1, sickle-shaped ejaculatory apodeme, and truncate female abdomen.
Diagnosis. A full description of the genus is available in Sinclair (1994). Trichoclinocera is distinguished from other clinocerine genera by the following combination of characters: R1 setose, R4 and R5 normally nearly parallel, apex of cell dm not strongly produced, M1 and M2 arising separately from cell dm, fore femur with rows of ventral setae; female abdomen truncate, with tergite 10 setose (acanthophorite-like); apex of phallus membranous, lacking filament.
Remarks. The appearance of the apex of the phallus is dependent on the method of clearing and state of the specimen. The membrane may be destroyed in strong acids or bases, and it may not expand as evenly from specimen to specimen.
Distribution. The genus occurs in the Palearctic, Nearctic and Oriental regions, and there are more than 30 additional undescribed species known from Burma, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam.
