Type:— ECUADOR. ‘ Crescit locis humidis Regni Quitensis inter pagum Mulalo et villam Pensache , in declivitate orientali montis Cotopaxi, alt. 1700 hex.’ [ F. W. H. A. Humboldt & A. J. A. Bonpland 3123] (lectotype: P 00320226 !, designated by Calvo & Freire, (2016: 124); isolectotypes: F 0076967 F!—fragment, P01816703 !). Iconography: Silva-Moure et al. (2013: 115) .

Senecio bullatus Bentham (1845: 208) . Type:— ECUADOR. ‘ In declivitate montis Pichincha et in fruticeto ab incolis Monte de Tiopullo dicto’ [K. T. Gynoxys auriculata Turczaninow (1851: 86) . Type:— ECUADOR. ‘ In alpe Pichincha alt.14000 ped. legit cl. [W.] Jameson [s. n.] ’ (lectotype: US 00122889!, designated by Calvo & Freire, (2016: 126); isolectotypes: BM 001191596 !, KW 001001523 !).

Senecio patens (Kunth) Candolle var. prenanthoidea Hieronymus (1901: 632) . Type:— COLOMBIA. ‘Columbia: locis non indicates ([J.] Triana n. 1452 et 1453)’ (lectotype: BM 001191595!, designated by Calvo & Freire (2016: 124)).

Distribution and Habitat ( Fig. 5 ): — Senecio patens occurs in the Andes of Venezuela ( Silva-Moure et al. 2013), Colombia, and Ecuador at elevations of 2700–4500 m.
